If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re growing a tiny human—how amazing is that?! First off, a massive congratulations. Whether it’s your first or your fifth baby, I truly believe your pregnancy deserves to be documented and celebrated in a way that feels real, relaxed, and meaningful to you.
I know having your photo taken (especially while you’re navigating all the changes that come with pregnancy) can feel a bit daunting, but I promise—by the end of your session, you’ll feel beautiful, empowered and probably even forget the camera is there.
Here are my best tips to help you feel fully prepared and genuinely enjoy your maternity shoot.
This session is all about you. There’s no need to pose perfectly or perform for the camera. I’ll gently guide you with natural prompts so you never feel stiff or unsure. You’re growing life—there’s already so much beauty in that. Whether you want to show your bump bare or covered, my goal is to capture the emotion, connection and story of this incredible season.
Let yourself feel present and proud. You don’t need to be “photogenic” or know what you’re doing. You just need to be you.
You’re welcome to borrow something from my client wardrobe—I’ve got a gorgeous selection of maternity-friendly dresses in soft, earthy tones that work beautifully in our Christchurch light and landscapes. But if you’re bringing your own outfit, comfort is everything. Go for something that fits your bump well and makes you feel like the goddess you are.
Neutrals, warm tones, and soft textures tend to photograph best. Try to avoid logos or super busy patterns, and definitely give any new outfit a try-on before shoot day just to make sure you love it.
Little tip: start planning with your outfit first and build others around it if you’re including your partner or kiddos.
Most of my maternity sessions are shot during golden hour—right before sunset—because the light is just amazing. That soft, glowy vibe you see in my photos? That’s when we get it.
If you’re not a night owl or you’re a bit worried about feeling tired later in the day, don’t stress. We can keep the shoot short and sweet, and I’ll help you feel comfortable the whole time. Prefer a cosy at-home session? I’ve got you. We’ll find the best natural light in your space and create something beautifully intimate and relaxed.
You really don’t need to bring much, but a few things can help the shoot run super smoothly:
And if your partner or kids are joining, I’ll gently guide them too. No awkward posing—just natural moments, laughter and love.
Whether that’s a quiet moment to yourself, getting your nails done, or just picking out an outfit you love—anything you do to feel confident and calm will absolutely shine through in your images. If you’re planning on using fake tan, try it a few days ahead of time with a brand you know. And if we’re heading into a field or grassy spot, antihistamines or a spritz of bug spray never go amiss!
This is your time—treat yourself like the queen you are.
These sessions are about more than just pretty photos—they’re about you, in this season of life. One day, you’ll look back on these images and remember how it felt. The anticipation, the quiet excitement, the way your body held your baby close. I feel so honoured to capture that for you.
So take a breath, let go of the pressure to “do it right,” and trust that you’re already everything your baby needs—and so worthy of being in front of the lens.
I can’t wait to photograph this beautiful chapter for you.
